As part of our commitment to inclusion, diversity and equity, our employees have the opportunity to display gender pronouns in their email signature. By opting to do so, all staff have the ability to indicate their pronouns, creating an inclusive environment for our colleagues who are transgender and/or non-binary, reassuring them that they are welcome and included in our firm. This option is one further way for us to demonstrate our inclusive culture, protecting anyone from being misgendered (i.e., being referred to with incorrect pronouns), as it can be an extremely hurtful and invalidating experience.
Gender identity is a core part of someone’s self. Gender identity is an invisible attribute and cannot not simply be determined by someone’s appearance or other visible signs. Pronouns specifically refer to the way in which we address or refer to others in relation to their gender identity, such as ‘they’, ‘she’ and ‘him’.
We recognise that using a person’s correct pronouns provides gender affirmation, signals mutual respect, and creates a more welcoming and tolerant environment.
