Mark has extensive experience in a wide range of legal areas including health law, medical negligence, personal injury, public liability, dispute resolution, and institutional negligence. Mark has expertise in advising clients in relation to matters where indemnity is in dispute, complex liability claims, property damage claims involving multiple defendants, and the pursuit of recovery in specific matters.
Mark has prior expertise in advising leading insurers, government bodies and health clients, including medical professionals and local health districts, in NSW District and NSW Supreme Court proceedings. He has acted for clients in relation to civil proceedings arising from medical treatment, personal injury claims and public liability claims within NSW.
Mark understands clients’ needs and strives for the timely and effective resolution of claims. He acknowledges the financial and reputational risks faced by government clients in responding to and defending claims.
Legacy, Sensitive and Complex Claims
- Acting for and advising the NSW Department of Communities and Justice in a significant number of historic abuse claims, including multi-party claims with complex liability and causation issues.
- Acting in successfully mediated outcomes for the Department of Communities and Justice in a multi-party litigated claim in the Supreme Court of NSW and achieving a favourable outcome for the client.
Personal Injury
- Advising a local health district on a personal injury claim in the NSW District Court relating to a fall that occurred in a hospital café, which was leased to and operated by a third party. Mark acted for the LHD and identified the lessee who was joined to the proceedings by the plaintiff and negotiated a favourable outcome for the client, in the form of a much smaller contribution to the settlement than the other party.

- Advising on and defending a significant number of medical negligence claims brought against NSW Health, including local health districts and VMOs, and achieving favourable resolutions for the client by way of settlement discussions and mediation.
