Chanel is an experienced litigator and negotiator, specialising in defence of national liability disputes across the casualty, catastrophic injury, and property space. She has extensive experience acting behalf of public liability insurers, their insureds, corporate insureds, and public authorities including local councils. It is through the total understanding of the insurer and the insured’s business that she can tailor and deliver enhanced services, including efficient claims outcomes and risk mitigation.
Chanel’s career has been dedicated to the practice of insurance law and immersion in the insurance industry. She is a member of various industry organisations such as Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA), Women in Insurance, NSW Claims Discussion Group and the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand.
Chanel has been recognised by her peers in Best Lawyers 2023, 2024 and 2025 on the Ones to Watch list in insurance law and personal injury litigation.
- Obtaining judgment in favour of a local authority in a matter where it was sued for personal injury to a child at a public playground.*
- Advising a global insurer in relation to prospects of recovering a judgment sum from a claimant where evidence of prospective fraud emerged after judgment had been entered.*
- Defending a claim made by a large corporation for indemnity under a public liability policy held by a corporate insured.*
- Negotiating various settlements which resulted in the claimant and worker’s compensation insurer abandoning their claim against a public liability insurer and their insured.*
- Successfully pursuing a contractual indemnity in favour of a major corporate insured from their subcontractor in personal injury proceedings.*
- Advising a national corporation in relation to the nature and scope of their duty of care under the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) as an occupier of various premises including public and recreational areas.*
