Roland is a results-focused solicitor and has private practice and in-house claims management experience specialising in Financial Lines, including in the building and construction space.  Roland has earned a reputation for consistently achieving outstanding outcomes for his clients in dispute management.

Roland is regularly called on by insurers to draft and revise policy wording and endorsements and prepares a full suite of primary policies including; Construction, Directors and Officers, Professional Liability, Cyber and Data Security, DIC/DIL, and Logistics Liability, General Products and Environmental Liability and endorsements across a range of product offerings.

Through his extensive experience, Roland has also developed unique expertise in the development and implementation of alternative dispute resolution strategies, gained from complex major construction and financial services sector experience.

Roland also contributes to WK’s pro bono practice, focusing on human rights advocacy. He has authored submissions to government inquiries on the implications of Neurotechnology on Human Rights and to the Inquiry Into Financial Services Regulatory Framework in Relation to Financial Abuse on how insurance can be misused by the perpetrators of domestic violence. He also undertaken research into the impact of AI on women’s work and has provided guidance on enhancing the Privacy Act. Roland works closely with the Australian Human Rights Commission and is a member of the Commission’s Expert Advisory Committee on Neurotechnology.

Additionally, Roland serves as a member of the Professional Conduct Committee of the Law Society, and advises on ethical issues within the legal profession.

  • Acting as coverage counsel on a claim against a large engineering firm concerning the design and construction of Sydney Train’s Millennium train fleet.
  • Acting as coverage counsel on a claim against a national construction firm concerning the design and construction of a block of residential units in Sydney.
  • Advising a major international insurer in defence of a litigated claim against an engineer arising from defective foundations of a residential property.
  • Acting for a major international insurer in defence of a litigated claim arising from the design and construction of an underground car park in a large residential complex in Sydney eastern suburbs.
  • Developing bespoke dispute resolution strategies for managing major infrastructure claims that have facilitated the efficient, proper and cost-effective disposition of major disputes whilst avoiding incurring unnecessary costs of litigation. In doing so he gained the trust and respect of the parties and multiple insurers involved in the claims.
  • Presently drafting an extensive suite of policy offerings for an international insurer who is launching into the Australian primary insurance market.
