Thomas has a well-rounded insight into insurance and dispute resolution. Before joining Wotton Kearney, he completed his legal traineeship claimant-side and gained valuable industry experience working with a prominent third party claims administrator. He also undertook a long secondment in a specialist claims role, which was an invaluable experience.
As an active member of the broader legal community, Thomas has served as Co-Chair of the Law Institute of Victoria Young Lawyers’ Professional Development Committee and sat on the Young Lawyers’ Executive Committee.
- Acting for a variety of insured entities in response to personal injury damages claims, including infrastructure asset managers, construction companies, schools, recreational activity providers, sporting/social clubs, not-for-profit organisations and shopping centres.
- Defending common law claims brought by injured workers against third parties and related compensation recovery proceedings issued by the Victorian WorkCover Authority.
- Conducting exhaustive investigations into historical allegations and successfully obtaining a permanent stay of an institutional liability proceeding in the Supreme Court of Victoria on the grounds that the trial would bring the administration of justice into disrepute if heard.
- Successfully demonstrating the prejudice facing an insured client, which enticed opposing lawyers to recommend that their client walk away from a significant litigated claim in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
